The Amazing Queen of Crime
During the five-day camp, we were mainly learning the communicative and comprehensive approaches. These approaches stress the maximum exposure of students to the target language and the communicative function of the class. Both the Canadian teacher and we were very hard-working, I think. However, I learnt the most from David Samson’s work shop, which was about the Queen of the Crime—Agatha Christie, the most-sold writer. This female writer, was able to create “The Mousetrap”, the longest running play in English history. She even surpassed William Shakespeare. Her best novels were the detective novels, in which two famous detectives emerged: Hercules Poirot and Miss Jane Marple, the spinster detective who “always expected the worst of everyone”. Agatha was also successful in applying different writing techniques in her works, including different narrative persons, impersonated characters. That was really amazing.
